How this tip calculator works
The tip equals your chosen bill base multiplied by the tip rate. The calculated tip is rounded to the nearest cent, then added to the bill. If you choose whole-unit rounding, the extra amount is added as a separate tip adjustment.
For example, a bill of 100.00 with 10.00 of included tax and a 20% before-tax tip gives a tip of 18.00 and a total of 118.00. Split between three people, one pays 39.34 and two pay 39.33.
This is an equal bill splitter. It does not assign individual menu items, deduct deposits or decide tax rates. Use the amounts on your receipt and review the result before paying.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I enter the receipt total or the amount before tax?
Enter the receipt total, including tax but before adding your new tip. If you want to exclude tax from the tip calculation, enter the tax amount already included in that total and choose Before tax. The tax is never added a second time.
Can I choose my own tip percentage or leave no tip?
Yes. Enter any rate from 0 to 100%, with up to two decimal places, or choose a preset. The presets are calculation shortcuts, not advice about tipping customs. Check whether a service charge or gratuity is already included and choose your rate accordingly.
Why might one person pay a cent more?
Some totals cannot be divided evenly into whole cents. The calculator shows how many people pay each amount so the payments add up exactly. It rounds the calculated tip to the nearest cent, with half a cent rounded up.
Does choosing euros or pounds convert the bill?
No. USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD and CHF change the currency label and formatting only. Enter the amount in the currency of your bill. The tool does not fetch exchange rates, calculate local taxes or apply country-specific cash-rounding rules.
What does round the total up do?
It raises the final bill-plus-tip amount to the next whole currency unit and treats the difference as extra tip. A total already at a whole unit stays the same. The result shows this extra amount separately.
Are my bill details saved, and what are the limits?
Calculations run in this browser tab without uploading your bill details or saving calculation history. Copy summary writes the displayed result to your clipboard only when you press it. Amounts can be up to 1,000,000 with two decimal places; split between 1 and 100 people. Use a dot or comma as the decimal separator without thousands separators.
