How to reduce image file size for email
A photo can be much larger than the version a recipient needs to view on screen. There are two separate ways to reduce its size: use fewer pixels, or store those pixels with more compression. Try one change at a time so you can see which trade-off works for your picture.
Start with a copy of the original
Keep your original photo before editing. Check the attachment limit shown by your email service; limits vary, and the whole message may need to fit, not just one attachment. If you have several photos, compare their combined size after exporting.
Reduce dimensions when the image is larger than needed
Open the image resizer, select the photo and keep original proportions enabled. For a photo intended mainly for a screen, try a width of 1600 pixels as a starting point, then inspect the result. This is a practical starting point, not a universal requirement. Small text or print use may need more detail.
Choose a size limit or adjust quality
Open Image Compressor and choose a maximum size in KB, or switch to Choose quality and start at 80%. Preview the result and compare the displayed original and output sizes before downloading. Very small limits can blur lettering or remove fine detail. The target mode can reduce dimensions only when allowed; set required dimensions if they must stay fixed.
Choose a different approach for transparency or text
JPG replaces transparent areas with white and can soften sharp lettering. PNG may suit a logo or screenshot, while WebP can preserve transparency if the destination accepts it. Read the image format guide before changing a graphic with a transparent background.
Check the downloaded file
